Extramedullary internal limb-lengthening techniques (EMILL)
Shannon C. și colab. · Techniques in Orthopaedics, 2020
The study describes extramedullary limb lengthening using a small-diameter SLIM nail, inserted as a guide into the medullary canal to neutralize cantilever-type forces. The method extends the indications for internal lengthening to younger children and to bones with an impracticable medullary canal.
Of 13 patients (14 procedures — 10 femurs, 4 tibias), 12 reached the preoperative target within 5 mm; there were no mechanical failures of the nail.View source
